How it works

From floor plan to Places map in three steps.

STEP 1

Add your floor plan

Create an office with its floors and upload a plan per floor. Place and scale it on the map.

STEP 2

Match rooms to Places

Import your Places export and draw each room on the plan. Every room is linked to its place in Microsoft Places.

STEP 3

Download and import

Download the IMDF package and import it into Microsoft Places yourself. Nothing in your Places tenant is changed by this app.

Ways to run it

Host it yourself, or try the online beta.

SELF-HOSTED

In your own Azure subscription

Deploy the open-source app to Azure with one click. Your data stays in your subscription and you control access with Microsoft Entra.

  • Open source, AGPL-3.0
  • Deploy to Azure template
  • You run and update it

Your data

Kept apart per organisation.

Sign-in with Microsoft

Work accounts only, through Microsoft Entra. Accounts are recognised by tenant and user ID, not by email address.

Workspace per organisation

An organisation only sees its own offices and floor plans. Separation between organisations is covered by automated tests.

Deletion on request

Ask and your workspace is deleted. The terms and the privacy statement say how, and how long it takes.

Questions, answered

Frequently asked questions

Do I need admin rights to use it?

Only once. The first person from your organisation to sign in needs an administrator to approve the app. After that, colleagues can be invited into the workspace without further approval.

Is it free?

Yes. The project does not charge for the online service or for the self-hosted version; it relies on voluntary donations. The online beta comes without a service level and can change as the beta proceeds. Self-hosting costs only the Azure resources you run it on.

Where is my data stored?

In Azure in the West Europe region. Each organisation has its own workspace, kept apart from the others.

Does it change anything in Microsoft Places?

No. The app produces an IMDF package. You import it into Microsoft Places yourself.

Can I run it myself?

Yes. It is open source under the AGPL-3.0 licence and deploys to your own Azure subscription. The self-hosting guide explains the steps.

Try it and tell us what breaks.

This is an early version. Feedback is welcome through a GitHub issue. Please do not post floor plans or tenant data there.
